Three to four cups of coffee good for your health, study claims

GOOD news, coffee drinkers!

Coffee might actually be good for your health, according to a recent review in British Medical Journal.

The review looked at 201 studies, and found that drinking a whopping four cups of coffee a day might actually be safe to drink.

“Coffee consumption was more often associated with benefit than harm for a range of health outcomes,” the study found.

High coffee consumption was associated with a lower risk of specific cancers, including: “Prostate cancer, endometrial cancer, melanoma, oral cancer, leukaemia, non-melanoma skin cancer, and liver cancer.”

Meanwhile, coffee drinkers who drink three cups a day have the lowest risk of suffering from cardiovascular disease, coronary heart disease and stroke.

Coffee consumption was also associated with a lower risk of neurological problems, including Parkinson’s disease, Alzheimer’s disease and depression.

Note that the study only found correlations between coffee and the above health outcomes — it wasn’t determined whether coffee was the cause.

The study found that coffee consumption and pregnancy may lead to negative health outcomes.

“Consumption in pregnancy seems to be associated with harmful outcomes related to low birth weight, preterm birth, and pregnancy loss.”

And for women prone to bone fractures, coffee increases the risk of further fractures.
